Whipping up a batch of handmade deodorant is inexpensive, healthy, quick and easy.... oh yeah; and lots of fun! This is a great project to do with children, the girls or solo. Well, here goes:

Wellness Mama has a very quick, simple recipe using only five ingredients two of which are optional, but I highly suggest using all of them. In short, tried it... use it... recommend it!

Becoming Peculiar has a natural recipe that is great for summertime wear, which doesn't melt in warm temps -- or at least not as quickly.

Busy At Home this recipe is more involved in that it uses probiotics as a preservative, I haven't tried this recipe but thought this concoction was worth a mention, and worth a try in the near future.

Gnowfglins recommends adding clay to the deodorant mixture for antiperspirant effects. Considering I already have bentonite clay on hand, I will be trying this recipe in the very near future. UPDATE: Tried adding bentonite clay to my mixture and it works great! I highly recommend adding it! This concoction has kept me fresh during hot/humid temps and even when I'm active.

Almost Exactly lists a variety of spray-on deodorant recipes none of them use baking soda.

Check back often for more DIY recipes and updates. Do you have homemade deodorant recipes that you prefer, modifications, reactions? Did you try any of the recipes above, what were your results? Please, share below!

Why Natural Pain Relievers?

Using natural pain relievers help reduce the amount of toxins that are filtered in the body. Many aspirins and prescription drugs are loaded with chemicals that are dumped into the liver and kidneys to be disposed. As a result of its possible side effects, over the counter and prescription drugs has the potential to comprise the immune system and overall health.
White Willow Bark

A good rule of thumb to note is that which is suppose to heal you shouldn't have a side effect. At the onset of pain, start with a natural pain reliever (white willow bark, which acts as a natural aspirins) then work your way to over-the-counter/prescription medication if you must.

However, trust your gut and consult your doctor or naturopath when combining natural or herbal pain relievers with medication.

Coconut Oil Benefits

We use coconut oil as a basis in many of our ingredients. It has several nutritional benefits and turns out that it’s great for your skin too, so much so we have decided to share what makes this oil so amazing.
  • Coconut oil is a dry oil (leaving a less greasy feeling) that absorbs into the skin rather quickly. It’s touted for its antimicrobial and antibacterial benefits.
  • Because of its fast absorbency, coconut oil helps combat wrinkles and dry skin. It also helps that it’s rich in antioxidants, which helps prevent aging.
  • It works great as a makeup remover, as it hydrates the skin and doesn’t clog the pores. Keep in mind that this oil solidifies in temperatures below 70-degrees (taking on butter-like texture) and liquefies in higher temps. It works wonders on removing makeup, including the waterproof kind.
  • Use coconut oil in place of shaving cream or soap; once again it leaves skin looking smooth and smelling fresh – coconutty to be exact.
  • An excellent hair and scalp moisturizer, use this when conditioning and/or washing your hair. It helps add shine and luster to hair due to its quick absorbency in the skin. Attention natural hair girls: you also can use this oil to help seal your dry ends.

Healthy Skin Care Tips...

Seeing as how your skin is the body's LARGEST organ for absorption, here are a few tips to help keep it glowing and shining radiantly during the winter months:

1. Love the skin you're in (whatever size, complexion, or quote/unquote blemish you have -- love it, because it's yours baby!)

2. Wash makeup off thoroughly. If no makeup, cleanse the debris from your face/skin thoroughly and daily.

3. For oily skin types, use toners or cleansers that have less moisturizing ingredients. Dry skin types, may be able to skip this step (however, if your skin responds well to it, do it!).

4. Which leads to... know your skin type (dry, normal, oily or mixture). Buy products that best suite your skin. Test out products and see what works best for you, until you feel good in your own skin. If a product isn't working out for you, discontinue use immediately.

5. Exfoliate baby! Both face and body... This can be accomplished with a body scrub, facial mask or exfoliating gloves. A good scrub helps rid the skin of buildup and debris that may be deep rooted.

6. If a product has been chemically created in a lab, do not put it on your skin. Why? Although most companies will claim to use small amounts of laboratory created chemicals, these toxins, loaded with carcinogens, get filtered through the liver, kidney, lymphatic system which eventually appears on the skin as acne, dark spots, blotchy and scaly skin, etc. Long term use can serve as the breeding ground for autoimmune diseases like diabetes, anemia, lupus, arthritis, etc. Sounds extreme, I know but if it's not helping you (nutritionally) then its more than likely extracting from you (nutritionally); thus creating the appearance of unhealthy looking skin, and dependence upon chemically enhanced products.

7.  Drink plenty water

8. Dry brushing, yep this means brushing your skin while it's dry. Doing so helps to stimulate the lymphatic system, unclog pores, helping to rid the body of toxins and some people have said it's helped reduce the appearance of cellulite. (FYI: this also helps for those with circulation issues, dry also known as body brushing wakes up the lymphatic system and gets the blood moving more fluidly)

Stay tuned for more tips... got questions or additional tips share them below!

Beauty from the inside... starting with water!

That's right...

there's no way around it; if you want beautiful skin you must put some water in :)

Whether it's mineral water, alkaline, filtered or the best option available; drink plenty of water until you feel you've had enough. Sure, most will advise you to drink eight glasses of water or half your body weight; but it is my humble opinion that people are not math equations and your body will let you know when it's had its fill.

You may even find that you need more than eight glasses of water on a given day because you're so dehydrated or unable to retain water because its dripping out of you faster than you can chug it down. Or, you may find that you need far less water (than recommended) because you ate foods (cucumber, watermelon, coconut, tomato, etc.) that were high in water content that day. The point is only YOU can really know when enough is enough. So listen to your body, because it's always giving you signals to either stop, go or slow down. The question is, are you paying attention?

If you Reeeeallly need more reasons why you should drink more water, well here are a few:

  • Water helps the body flush out toxic waste
  • Water helps to improve metabolism, thus aiding in weight loss
  • Water helps the brain (which is comprised of mostly water) function, thereby drinking enough of it helps you to stay alert and concentrate better
  • Water helps the skin glow from the inside out
  • Water assists with digestion
  • It is a vital component for the human blood, which consists of more than 80% water
  • Water helps the body's organs absorb nutrients
  • Water lubricates the joints and provides oxygen to the muscle
